This project looks at the issue of “weekend parents”, how young parents have very limited time for their babies, because of a heavy work schedule due to China’s economic rise. There are a series of important factors that affect a baby, such as a mother’s heartbeat odor, voice, and sense of her womb. This system allows parents to interact and be close to their children no matter where they are or what they are doing. The virtual reality technology will allow the baby to feel the presence of his mother at all times. Mothers can also track infants’ temperature, weight, voice, and other important information by phone or computer.

Research

• Heartbeat: It is important for the baby to hear the mother’s heartbeat, to be relaxed and calm. This is due to when the baby is inside the mother’s womb, it can constantly hear the mother’s heartbeat.
• Voice: The mothers’ voice is the only voice that can stimulate the infants’ language part of the brain. Mothers’ voice is important in a child’s language development.
• Odor: Odor is the main sense used by a baby to detect its mother. This will increase the babies’ appetite.
• Womb and health information: Crafting the piece into a womb-like structure is important as it will allow the baby to be comfortable as this is the baby’s natural position when inside the mother. The health information of babies is important for mothers too.
